My New York Decision
A Short Story
What’s a girl to do when life hands her two completely different roads—and no map?
That’s me.
Until my fiancé called off our wedding the day, of, I thought everything was going wonderfully. Yeah, that morning, as I stepped into my gown, a text pops up on my phone. Sorry TJ. It’s off.
That’s it. No explanation. And I don’t hear from him again. I call, I text. He doesn’t answer. His folk won’t talk to me.
Now what?
I fall into a decline for eight months. I work from home—my work suffers.
My favorite sister Rachel lives in New York City. I’ve never been to NYC, or any other big city. Never had a desire to. Scares me right to death to think about it!
She calls me one day and says, “This is nuts! Pack your crap and get down here! You’ll love it!”
I’m pretty sure I won’t. But, hey, after stalling eight months, I packed my crap and went.
Wouldn’t you know it? First full day I’m there, I run into Bradford.
Says he’d like a second chance. Sounds sincere.
But can I trust that?
Rachel says, “Forget about him! He’s a loser! Move here!”
Bradford pleads, “Please come back home with me! I’m sorry! I’ll make it up to you!”
My heart says, Give him another chance! Mind says, Don’t be foolish! Listen to Rachel!
I’m at a crossroads. No map, no GPS to give me a clue. What will I do? Listen to Rachel and move to a place out of my comfort zone? Listen to Bradford, and go back to all that’s familiar? Or something else?
What would you do?
